About St. Petersburg

Since its foundation, St. Petersburg is rightly considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Greatness of St. Petersburg fascinates and captivates at first sight. The historical part of the city is included in the UNESCO list of cultural heritage as an outstanding monument of architecture and world significance urban planning, which combines such diverse styles as Baroque and Classicism (the Admiralty, the Winter Palace, the Marble Palace and the Hermitage).

St. Petersburg is one of the largest cities in the world, but everyone who comes here for the first time, does not feel like a stranger. A lot of people are familiar with the walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress, the spire of the Admiralty, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Bronze Horseman and more through the hundreds of books, movies, TV shows.

Participants of the conference can create their individual cultural program of staying in St. Petersburg, for this you need to make the application and fill out the questionnaire.

Mariinsky Theatre
One of the most famous and important theatre of opera and ballet in Russia and in the world. For more than two centuries on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre has been presenting the world with a plethora of great artistes and outstanding ballet dancers among them Mathilde Kschessinska, Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinsky, Galina Ulanova, Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov. This is the place where George Balanchine set out on the road to art. This theatre has witnessed the dawn of such brilliant theatre decorators as Konstantin Korovin, Alexander Golovin, Alexandre Benois, Simon Virsaladze and Fyodor Fyodorovsky among countless others.

Museum of Contemporary Art Erarta
(for independent visits)


ERARTA — the largest private museum of contemporary art in Russia. The main mission of the museum — to collect, exhibit and popularize the most interesting and original works by contemporary artists.

The entrance ticket (valid for 1 day) – 500 rubles.
You can buy the entrance ticket at the box office of the museum.
Working hours: 10.00 – 22.00.
Address: 29th Line of Vasilyevsky Island, 2 (distance in 5 min from the Pokrovsky Stem Cell Bank).

The ticket includes visits to five floors the museum’s permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions, cinemas, as well as familiarity with the author’s project of Erarta: «Graphic animation», «Sounded history of paintings» and «Graphic literature».

After the excursion, you can relax and dine in the spacious halls of the cozy restaurant Erarta Café.

Restaurant Erarta Café is located in the basement of the museum Erarta.
On weekdays from 12.00 to 16.00 there are serve substantial lunches. Kitchen of Erarta Café is manage by chef Artyom Grebenshchikov — a member of the Guild of Chefs, a consultant Hospitality Academy, winner of many international culinary competitions.

The Hermitage

The Hermitage is one of the largest museums in the world. The Hermitage collection includes about 3 million items, exploring all the exhibition will take a few years. However, an individual guide during a tour of the Hermitage will introduce you the most interesting halls and famous objects of art.

A few tips for the Hermitage visitors:

  • Tickets are sold only upon passport presentation;
  • Be sure to take a plan of the museum on the first floor;
  • Do not take the water in the museum, you will have to leave it upon presentation of tickets. It is better to put a bottle with water in a bag and handed it over to the wardrobe;
  • If desired, on the ground floor of the museum you can have a snack in the cafe.

The Russian Museum

The Russian museum contains the world’s largest collection of Russian art. It is the country’s first state museum of Russian art, which is a unique architectural and artistic complex in the historic center of St. Petersburg. On January 1, 2015 in collection of the Russian Museum were 410,945 units: paintings, drawings, sculptures, coins, arts, crafts and folk art, as well as archival materials.

Your independent walk through the historic center

For those who want to make own city tour and get acquainted with St. Petersburg, we offer a walking tour route.

Walking along Nevsky Prospekt, you can enjoy such sights as the Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace, the Anichkov Bridge over the Fontanka River with 4 sculptures «The Horse Tamers», a 15-meter monument of Catherine the Great and the Drama Theatre named after A. Pushkin («Alexandrinka»).

Through 200 meters there is the Gostiny Dvor, the Catholic Church of St. Catherine, which was visited by O. de Balzac, Franz Liszt, Alexandre Dumas, Adam Mickiewicz, and the Kazan Cathedral – one of the most grandiose buildings of St. Petersburg.

At the corner of Prospect and the Moika embankment is located the Stroganov Palace. It is the oldest building on Nevsky Prospect. Then you can go to see the St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the famous «Bronze Horseman». Passing through the Neva embankment you reach the Palace Square, and further along the embankment of Moika River — right up to the memorial museum — Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood (Church of the Resurrection).

After Trinity Bridge you can walk to the Peter and Paul fortress which is located on the Zayachy Island (also known as Hare Island). In particular, from foundation of the fortress began the history of the city.
